Map: Lake Shore (CC map) Players: poosticks, Hanni This is a good wee scrap between Hanni and myself on 'Lake Shore.' I didn't think I had been playing well lately but this proves that a good challange brings out the best in old poo ;) One note is Hanni's early slasher drive up my west side, its amazing how the few mt's and sampson's there tore them apart simply by virtue of their layout! *breathes sigh of relief* Notes on Line of Sight (LOS): All units are given sight a radius (in pixels). Eg. Slasher: SightDistance=230; (Weapon:600r, 2.5rl, 41dam) This corresponds to a los table value of 230/32=7 (rounds down) Defender: SightDistance=350; (Weapon:700r, 2rl, 46dam) This corresponds to a los table value of 350/32=10 (rounds down) Weasel: SightDistance=310; (Weapon:180r, 0.865rl, 30dam) This corresponds to a los table value of 310/32=9 (rounds down) Unfortunately, due to a bug in unmodified TA, only LOS tables 1-9 are available. Hence the Defenders true LOS is 9 (in fact any SightDistance > 288 [32*9] remains at LOS 9) Note: One base distance unit in TA is the 'tile.' It is 32*32 pixels. As can be seen by the above info, slashers are relatively 'blind' compared to Defenders (there is a 64 pixel sight deficit). Note also, that unless using radar, only one Defender needs to see the slashers (and vice versa of course), and other units in range will also join fire. In addition, Defenders have a 100 pixels extra reach over sampsons. This means that unless the sammies are advancing towards the Defenders, and thus reducing this deficit, they are in trouble. But of course, you cannot shoot what you canot see. Had say, 3 weasels, at the metal cost of 1 slasher headed the pack, not only would the slashers have engaged earlier, but the weasels would have drawn considerable fire, as the group moved into my territory. Annother 3 scouts bringing up the rear would have been in position to scout Defenders near my vech. plant, and after that... Lets just say *whew* VIEWING THE GAME Here are some pointers to help you under LOS better. If you want to clearly see how far the unit can see, get a +view # on the player of interest. Lets look at Hanni's slashers. Go +view # (# = 1-4, whichever works) type in +los Now you see what they saw! Watch the fun! =D (type +los to return to permanent LOS) Important note: The above procedure could be used to spot LOS cheaters in games.
